Trout Life Cycle and Conservation
Field Trip to Riedman Fish Hatchery, Powder Mills Park

The 82-year-old Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park was established in 1933 as a cooperative effort between the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries and Monroe County. The Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park is open all year long. This popular family destination provides a unique opportunity to view several varieties of fish in various stages of development. We will enjoy a guided tour of the facility and with an expert or two in our midst, learn about the life cycle and breeding habits of the various trout raised at the hatchery.  A BANC event.

DEVIL’S BATHTUB WALK
Mendon Ponds Park, Mendon, NY

Join us on our adventure to a very rare meromictic (layers of water that do not mix) lake, “Devil’s Bathtub”, which has very deep water surrounded by unusually high ridges. Laura Ouimette will lead us on this .67 mile walk with one steep climb, stairs, and boardwalk sections. We should be able to identify sassafras, red maple, and oak trees along with ferns as we traverse the glacial formations in this area of Mendon Ponds Park.  Please consider bringing a walking stick and bug spray for this event.

FALL FOLIAGE AT MOUNT HOPE CEMETERY
Field Trip to Mount Hope Cemetery

The old trees of Mount Hope Cemetery should be in their full fall glory as October comes to its end. As we stroll the paths, BANC tree expert, Frank Crombe, will help us appreciate the wonderful specimens of trees and shrubs found in the cemetery. Meet at the north entrance on Mount Hope Avenue at 10:00.
