Grimes Glen is
a classic Finger Lakes gorge, a continuously changing and fragile environment
shaped and reshaped over time by the power of water. Join us as we enjoy the
winding trail along the creek to a point at which terrain requires visitors to
ford the stream to continue their journey to the second of three sixty foot
waterfalls. Sandy Bierbrauer, for
"FROGG"--Friends of Grimes Glen will also be with us!
Please be prepared with wading shoes and walking sticks. The path across the bridge is reasonably handicap-accessible about 1/3 of the way but then you must wade the creek bed to see the two waterfalls. The third waterfall requires rope and climbing so we will not be going that far into the glen. You may consider packing a lunch to enjoy after our adventure in the glen. There are picnic tables near the parking area at the end of Vine Street.

"The bugs are light - but bug spray's in order. It's shady enough that no sunscreen is needed. We will be able to see all plants while we're still on level ground so all should feel comfortable coming to see the plants. Shoes that you can get wet are required to see the waterfalls."
We enjoyed a safe hike in Grimes Glen without being able to get to the waterfalls. Due to a storm earlier that morning there was an abundance of water in the creek (which had also washed out many of the roads getting to Grimes Glen). It was difficult to hear one another with the sound of the rushing water yet Robert and Sandra had an wealth of knowledge to share.
