Phil and Lucy Sheils graciously welcomed 12 members on a pleasantly sunny morning. They gave us a history of their property, told us about a great flood in 2002 and how they purchased the neighboring property before rebuilding their seasonal home to a year round home. Bob Fladd did the stone work creating break walls. Lucy remembers learning that only native plants would survive future flooding under the "high water marks". They have both native and introduced plants but certainly lean toward the natives which include: many ferns including Hart's tongue, red dogwood, button bush, river beech, witch hazel, spice bush, HEMLOCK, bug-bane, black cohosh, hyssop, bottle gentian, culver's root, winterberry, big blue stem, Virginia Anemone, ......................
Phil and Lucy have named the large sycamore trees that grow on their property. Lucy is especially fond of the Hemlock tree seen in this stereoscope photograph.
Here it is today looking from the west side of the house:and shore side:
Because it was such a beautiful sunny day, my images were not the best.
