LAGOON PARK WALK

Saturday, October 1, 2016  10:00 AM
LAGOON PARK walk with the
Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association
Lakeshore Drive, Canandaigua
Jim Engel initiated the restoration of Lagoon Park several years ago and has worked with the support of Canandaigua Botanical Society to greatly reduce the amount of European Buckthorn and other invasive species there.  Last year we dedicated a kiosk created by Eagle Scout Patrick McFadden at the east entrance of the park from Lakeshore Drive.  Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council has also been committed to restoration efforts in Lagoon Park and will join us this year to check on the progress.

Directions: Park in the lot to the west of Carousel Drive adjacent to the hotel non-construction near Lakefront Park.  We will meet by the kiosk at 10 AM.
Please note:  The Canandaigua Botanical Society is interested in helping to establish interpretive guides for Lagoon Park.  Feel free to let us know if you’d like to participate in this endeavor.

Bentley Woods walk

Saturday, August 6, 2016; 10:00 AM
(carpool leaves at 9:20 from Sly Street parking
lot behind Ontario County Courthouse)
Bentley Woods Old Growth Forest walk
Log Cabin Road, Fishers, NY

Bentley Woods is a Nature Conservancy property where mushrooms will likely be among the treasures we see.  This 21 acre old growth forest is landlocked by residential properties.  Bruce Gilman will lead access to the land via a neighboring property owner.

Directions:  Head north from Canandaigua to Route 96.  Turn south onto Main Street Fishers and travel just over 1 mile.  Turn right onto Log Cabin Road.  We will park along the road one mile up near 366 Log Cabin Road to access Bentley Woods.  Due to limited parking along Log Cabin Road, carpooling is encouraged.

FINALLY! My computer is in working order enough to load photos from our visit to Bentley Woods:
