A VISIT TO THE PERMACULTURE INSTITUTE

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Time: 10 am (or 9:15 if carpooling from the Ontario County Courthouse parking lot)

Where: 163 Helen Road, Rochester, NY 14623**

In January 2011, the Rochester Permaculture Center was established. Healthy forests maintain, fertilize, and renew themselves naturally. When we understand how these properties emerge from forest ecosystem structure and function, we can apply that knowledge to the design of “food forests” that mimic natural forests while growing food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizers, farmaceuticals, and fun. Located in an urban/suburban/forest edge site, the edible gardens forests will be planned and planted over the year. Come see how far along the “edible forests” will be on our visit.

Patty Love is a permaculture designer, teacher, and researcher based in Rochester. She holds a Permaculture Design Certificate together with a traditional B.S. and M.A.L.S. degrees. She is the director of Barefoot Edible Landscape and Permaculture Design Firm.
