This is an event hosted by FLCC Muller Field Station at Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area
The
Honeoye Watershed Exploration Series is a four part series that invites
community members to participate in educational guided walks/hikes at
four beautiful locations in the Honeoye Lake Watershed. This is a great
opportunity for you to deepen your knowledge about the Honeoye
Watershed!
The
first part of this series will be a hike at the Harriet Hollister
Spencer Recreation Site. The hike will be guided by Dr. Bruce Gilman.
Dr. Gilman recently retired from the Department of Environmental
Conservation and Horticulture at Finger Lakes Community College where he
taught for 42 years. His teaching expertise includes aquatic ecology,
field botany, glacial geology, agronomy and environmental science. He
will discuss topics such as:
-Glacial history
-Forest composition/ecological communities
-Old growth forest
-Land/forest management
-Invasive species management
-Recreational uses
-Forest composition/ecological communities

-Invasive species management
-Recreational uses
This will be a moderate hike with some steep slopes and uneven terrain. Hike will likely last 2 hours.
Guests
must dress for appropriate weather conditions; warm layers, sturdy
waterproof footwear. Feel free to bring a small pack to carry any extra
clothing, water, or a light snack.
